In order to use the TXT2SPCH program, you MUST load the
memory resident SPEECH program FIRST! If you ran the RUN-ME
batch file to see and hear this file, then it has already been
done. This only needs to be done once per session. The SAY
program is used to send phoneme strings to the SPEECH program
and is NEEDED by the TXT2SPCH program.
The TXT2SPCH program will ask you to enter a line of text
and then it will translate the English text into its phoneme
components to be spoken by the memory resident SPEECH program.
The SPEAK batch file will type out a text file on the
screen and then speak out the words in it! To use it, enter
SPEAK textfile.ext (textfile.ext is the full name of the text
file to be spoken). There are some limits in the use of the
SPEAK batch file. The line length should NOT exceed sixty two
(62) characters and should NOT contain the dash character "-".
The dash is used by the SPEECH program to string together the
phonemes to be spoken. It is better to spell out multiple
digit numbers than write them in the numeric form. Since the
file will be displayed on the screen, it should NOT be longer
than twenty four (24) lines.
TXT2SPCH.EXE was renamed from TXT-SPCH.EXE and written
in 'C' by Teddy Maningo. SPEAK.BAT and this doc file were
written by Jay Caplan.
Have FUN with these programs!
